Shogun and Josh Barnett

I totally forgot. Back in Feburary I went to Vegas for a birthday thing with some friends. It was the same weekend as the PrideFC event. During breakfast as Ceasar’s Palace I ran into Shogun and Josh Barnett. My friend took the pictures and sent them to my email and I forgot all about it. Well here it is.

UFC 69, Congrats to Matt Serra and Josh Koscheck

This UFC event was an underdog betting man’s dream. Three out of the five fights on the card were won by the underdogs. The overall event was decent, but unfortunately George St. Pierre (GSP), a favorite fighter of mine, loss to Matt Serra. The odd against Serra were huge, 12 to 1. Before the fight it was almost inconceivable to believe that GSP would lose. It’s not easy watching your fighter lose in any fashion. But we all know in an MMA fight anything can happen. I’m sure if they fight again GSP will still be the favorite to win.

What did GSP do wrong in this fight? GSP didn’t have the same aggression as he did in his previous fights. His striking is technically superior to Serra’s yet he seemed to have held back. The only reason I can think of is that GSP respected his opponent too much and fought too cautiously. You have to give Serra credit for not just winning but to choose to stand and strike with GSP, and luckily for him GSP’s cautiousness Serra was able to catch GSP with a right hook that stunned him where Serra would take advantage and finish the fight.

The Sanchez and Koscheck bout was the fight I was more excited to see. Sanchez was on a 19 fight winning streak, and Koscheck has been moving up the rankings in the welter weight division. Their last encounter was on the first season of TUF where Sanchez won the fight, but only due to the fact that Koscheck was inexperience and his MMA talent consisted mostly of his wrestling abilities. After TUF Koscheck began training at AKA where he was able to develop into a more complete MMA fighter.

Koscheck came into the bout with an effective game plan, to stand and test Sanchez’s striking. In round one, the majority of the round had them standing toe to toe with Koscheck scoring with his jabs and straight punches. The last 20 seconds Koscheck took Sanchez to the ground, but only to be swept and Sanchez almost having Koscheck’s back at the end of the first round. Rounds two and three were similar but minus the takedown. Sanchez is a smart fighter, but I don’t understand why he didn’t take the fight to the ground where it seem he was better than Koscheck. His standup wasn’t scoring any points with the judges. Maybe it was his ego, and he wanted to win by KO. Koscheck definitely deserve the win even though the crowd was unhappy with the performance. UFC loves setting up rematches and we can see them again for a third time sometime in the future. But for now, Koscheck has the last laugh.

entourage

Yup, it’s another UFC event. This main event has George St. Pierre defending his title against TUF 4 winner, Matt Serra. What’s my pick? It’s George St. Pierre by ref stoppage.

In addition the new season of Entourage starts this coming Sunday. It’s like Sex and the City for guys. If you haven’t seen it then go out and rent the first 3 seasons. “Lets hug it out bitch!”

The Partay!

Just want to thank all my friends who showed up to my house warming party last night, especially those who helped contribute to the alcohol. I’m sure everyone had a great time. I know I did. Luckily for me the after party clean up wasn’t as bad as I expected.

From the morning text messages from my friends they said it was an awesome house party. Of course, I have to agree 😀 When you have 80+ people, a dedicated bartender, an open and fully stocked bar what can you expect? For those who missed it. Maybe next time.

300

300

Zack is back. Zack Snyder directed 2004’s Dawn of the Dead which is one of my favorite zombie movies. Snyder is able to faithfully bring Miller’s graphic novel 300 onto the big screen. From the opening to closing scenes the movie is breath-taking. This is probably the first time any director and writer is able to translate a graphic novel into movie so well. Though the movie was shot almost entirely with a green-screen the film’s special effect fit so seamlessly into the movie.

The story is loosely based on the historic battle of Thermopylae where Leonidas and his 300 Spartan warriors held off a Persian army of one million. This is one of the first battles in history where the geographic landscape played an influential role in battle. 300 has more testosterone than any action movie released in the past 10 years. If you’re into gore and great action then 300 maybe the movie of the year for you.

On The Move

For the past two weeks I was in the process of moving my stuff out from my parents place to my new place. A buddy of mine bought a big new house, and I get to rent a room. I’m pretty much settled in and most of my stuff have been moved. Unfortunately, I will be leaving Rosco with my parents. I’m sure they would be more saddened if I took him with me.

The new place is nice. The rest of the house is still being furnished so it’s empty for the most part. We also have a house warming at the end of the month so hopefully everything we need should be in by then. We’ve already have regulars hanging out everyday making the atmosphere feel like a ready-to-be made sitcom, but with alcohol. Until next time, same channel, same place.

CHEERS!

System Upgraded

Alright, so I finally upgraded my Operating System to a Server-Based OS. Now my system is more robust and secure. It only took me an hour an a half which was less than half the time I was expecting.

I spent over a month testing everything on a VMware server and it looks like it paid off. There are a few things that I haven’t implemented yet. The Contact Me function is not going to work. At least until a few more hours. My music site will not be up and will likely be ready by the end of the weekend. What’s my music site you ask? It’s a webscript I use to host and stream all my music. It’s something I use to listen to when I’m at work or away from home. The site is user-restricted and it’ll require me to personally create an account. Currently, there are only a handful of accounts and I don’t think I will be creating anymore soon.

Anyways, if you see any problems with the site please report them to me by leaving a comment. I’m trying to get the Contact Me function as soon as I can. Thanks.

Update: Contact Me page is fully fuctional.

…and it continues

A few more days of vacation is still remaining. It feels like the days are going by too fast. I need an additional two more weeks off 😀

My Las Vegas trip was fantastic. It’s the best trip so far. I spent a bit more than I wanted but it wasn’t too bad. The best part was I got to meet some PrideFC fighters; Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Josh Barnett. I’ll post pictures when my friend sends them to me. Someone suggested another trip later this year. I may have to pass on that one, at least until I settle things in (more on that later).

There’s one big item on my list I need to check off for things to do during my vacation. It’s to work on my webserver. I may start on it tonight so there might be some downtime for this site. If I’m lucky it’ll only be down for about 2-3 hours so cross your fingers for me.

The Vacation

I started my vacation last Thursday. No more work until March 5th 😀 I really need this break to relax and catch up on things I’ve been missing. I was up in Tahoe over the weekend and I got to snowboard and hang out with some friends it was great.

This weekend I’ll be heading to Las Vegas. Yes, I know, again. That’s four trips in less than 8 months. This time it’s for a group birthday event, if that makes sense to anyone.

I’m also back coaching my old High School Track and Field team. I missed coaching the team. We got some real good potential this year and this group of students seem more motivated. Well at least most of them.

I should be upgrading my web server next week, so there will be some downtime for this website which may last from 2 – 5 hours. So even on my vacation I still have my hands full, but at least it’s full of doing things I enjoy.

Hey Rosco!!

Rosco’s back. I just finished giving him his quarterly hair cut. Not to shabby, eh? If you’re wondering Rosco’s about a year and a half old. A year and seven months to be exact. Just thought I’d share.
