The Spider is back in the octagon to defend his title against an explosive up and coming Chris Weidman. Weidman is a powerful wrestler that has KO power. Many see Weidman as the man to dethrone Silva. It doesn’t mean much since everyone says that about all of Silva’s opponents, but in the end Silva walks away keeping his title without breaking a sweat.

Silva is still the king of the division, and he’ll prove it to night by stopping Weidman in the later rounds.  Weidman will have to focus on his wrestling and keep Silva on his back if he wants a chance. As long as Silva is standing it will be a bad night for the challenger.

My Picks:

Anderson Silva beats Chris Weidman
Frankie Edgar beats Charles Oliveria
Tim Kennedy beats Roger Gracie
Tim Boetsch beats Mark Munoz
Dennis Siver beats Cub Swanson
Dave Herman beats Gabriel Gonzaga
Edson Barboza beats Rafaello Oliveria

This will be the first time ever that UFC will have a Women’s bout. And it’s just not any bout but a championship fight for the bantamweight weight division.

Sorry, I don’t have any fight analysis this time around, but I’ll have one for the next UFC on Fox in April and UFC 158. Those events should be exciting.

My Picks:

Ronda Rousey beats Liz Carmouche
Lyoto Machida beats Dan Henderson
Urijah Faber beats Ivan Menjivar
Josh Neer beats Court McGee
Josh Koshcheck beats Robbie Lawler
Brendan Schaub beats Lavar Johnson
Sam Stout beats Caros Fodor

UFC 156

Im a huge Frankie Edgar fan and this Championship fight is going to be exciting.

Jose Aldo is the king of the division, but he hasn’t faced anyone that is well rounded as Edgar. I actually see Edgar getting the win via decision.

My picks:

Frankie Edgar beats Jose Aldo
Rasad Evans beats Antonio Rogerio Noguiera
Alistair Overeem beats Antonio Silva
Jon Fitch beats Demian Maia
Joseph Benavidez beats Ian Mccall
Jacob Volkmann beats Bobby Green
Evan Dunham beats Gleison Tibau

Cain Velasquez is one of the most dynamic Heavyweights in the division. His quickness and endurance has made him very successful. But those  traits were mostly due to his smaller stature as a heavyweight.  What has made Dos Santos the champ he is today is his quick feet and his heavy hands. When these two meet again tonight the major difference between the two are their skillset they bring into the game; Velasquez with his wrestling, Dos Santos and his striking.

Velasquez’s last fight against Dos Santos ended too quickly to see his both of their game plans. But I see fight ending very similar as it did before.  Velasquez will have a hard time dealing with Dos Santos heavy and quick hands.  But if there was any chance for Velasquez to pull out a win he will need to turn this fight into a wrestling match.  Velasquez needs to take the Champ to the ground or stuff him against the cage.

My Picks:

Junior Dos Santos beats Cain Velasquez
Jim Miller beats Joe Lauzon
Tim Boetsch beats Constantinos Philippou
Yushin Okami beats Alan Belcher
Chris Leben beats Derek Brunson
Eddie Wineland beats Brad Pickett
Melvin Guillard beats Jamie Varner
Michael Johnson beats Miles Jury
Byron Bloodworth beats Erik Perez

UFC 154

GSP has been out for more than 18 months since his last fight against Jake Shields. St. Pierre will be defending his title against current Interim champ Carlos Condit. This will be a very interesting match. Condit will be one of GSP’s more well rounded opponents to date. However, Condit isn’t going to bring what GSP hasn’t already faced.

Condit’s last fight against Nick Diaz showed that he is a very cerebral fighter. He executed his game plan perfectly and didn’t fall into Diaz’s antics, which have gotten many other fighters flustered. Condit has a great chance to shock MMA fans and win the title. What he needs to do to win is to immediately go after GSP at the opening round. Condit needs to put on the pressure, but stay away from the takedowns. GSP tends to spend the first couple of minutes sizing up his opponents before he pulls the trigger. Since GSP has been out for some time, Condit will need to take advantage of GSP’s ring rust. The early pressure from Condit will keep GSP at bay.

One of the biggest questions people have for the current champ is how he will perform coming back from a serious injury, and will he still be able to dominate the division? A true champ will always come to win and GSP has more than enough tools to maintain the title for some time. Condit will be a tough test for the champ, but GSP will prove too much for the challenger once the champ gets into his grove.

My Picks:

Georges St. Pierre beats Carlos Condit
Martin Kampmann beats Johny Hendricks
Francis Carmont beats Tom Lawlor
Nick Ring beats Costa Philippou (fight cancelled)
Rafael dos Anjos beats Mark Bocek
Mark Hominick beats Pablo Garza
Patrick Cote beats Alessio Sakara
Chad Riggs beats Cyrille Diabate
Sam Stout beats John Makdessi
Rodrigo Damm beats Antonio Carvalho

UFC 153

I’ve talked to some fiends and many of them have already written Bonnar off on this fight. Anderson Silva is the clear favorite, but in MMA everyone has a chance.  Unlike most Anderson’s previous opponents Bonnar has the slight weight and size advantage.  I believe Bonnar’s only chance is to take the fight to the ground.  Bonnar’s BJJ is underrated and he can surprise the Middleweight champ and the world if he can slip in a submission early in the fight.  But that’s easier said than done.  I expect Anderson Silva to keep the fight standing and knocking out the former TUF competitor.

My Picks:

Anderson Silva beats Stephan Bonnar
Dave Herman beats Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira
Glover Teixeira beats Fabio Maldonado
Erick Silva beats Jon Fitch
Phil Davis beats Wagner Prado
Rick Story beats Demian Maia
Gleison Tibau beats Francisco Trinaldo
Diego Brando beats Joey Gambino
Luis Cane beats Chris Camozzi

UFC 148

Chael Sonnen is getting his wish, a rematch against the Middleweight King, Anderson Silva. It’s an understatement to say that Sonnen despises the current champ. And in every interview it’s seldom that he doesn’t mention how he feels about Anderson Silva.

With all the smack talking from Sonnen, it has finally struck a nerve with the always cool and calm champ. Silva has voiced some of his own smack talk as well. And at the weigh ins staredown Silva gave Sonnen an uncharacteristic shoulder bump that quickly caused both camps to jump in to prevent any further escalation. The tension in the air between both fighters was heavy and it only makes this fight more anticipating than ever.

In their last fight Sonnen dominated every minute of every round until the final round where Silva was able to slip in a triangle choke. As impressive as Sonnen was in that fight I don’t think he can replicate that performance. This is the first time we’ve seen an emotionally motivated Anderson Silva. And this motivation is just fuel to the fire that Sonnen is stoking. Expect Silva to keep the fight standing as he will try to KO Sonnen. But it’s likely that Sonnen will take the fight to the ground and in that case he’ll fall victim to another submission.

My Picks:

Anderson Silva beats Chael Sonnen
John Alessio beats Shane Roller
Chad Mendes beats Cody McKenzie
Mike Easton beats Ivan Menjivar
Rafaello Oliveira beats Yoislandy Izquierdo
Patrick Cote beats Cung Le
Forrest Griffin beats Tito Ortiz
Dong Hyun Kim beats Demian Maia

Anistavio Medeiros beats Rodrigo Damm

UFC 146

The original main event was suppose to be Dos Santos defending this title against Alistair Overeem, but due to a failed drug test Overeem was pulled from the match.  Now Frank Mir gets another opportunity to get a Heavyweight title around his waist.   Mir has won his last three fights and he has looked impressive.  Mir has a tough fight ahead of him. Dos Santos is a powerful heavyweight with devastating striking.  If Mir wants any chance of winning this fight he’ll need to take this fight to the ground.

Also, expect Dos Santos to look  at this fight as more than a title defense but to revenge the defeat of  his team mate Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira by the hands of Mir.

My Picks:

Junior Dos Santos beats Frank Mir
Antonio Silva beats Can Velasquez
Roy Nelson beats Dave Herman
Shane del Rosario beats Stipe Miocic
Stefan Struve beats Lavar Johnson
Diego Brandao beats Darren Elkins
Edson Barbosa beats Jamie Varner
Duane Ludwig beats Dan Hardy
Kyle Kingsbury beats Glover Teixeira
