My Mini Arcade

Remember the days when you went to your local liquor store and dropped a quarter to play your favorite arcade game? Well, I remember. I dropped a whole lot of quarters. In fact, the liquor store made more money off that arcade machine than selling alcohol.

Over the holiday break I bought a mini-arcade cabinet on craigslist. It came complete with a joystick and buttons setup and monitor. The cab was built by hand by the guy who sold it. He is quite the carpenter as the cab is solid and can be easily be mistaken for a commerical-built arcade. As for the wiring… lets say he won’t be an electrical engineer anytime soon.

The system is equiped with a 10 inch CRT rackmount monitor, Competition Happ joystick (The ones they use in Street Fighter II arcades), and a Street Fighter six-button layout with three additional buttons for other purposes.

Since purchasing the cab I had replace the rear fan, some internal wiring, and the rediculous out-dated computer that came with the cab.

Update: I also posted a video review version. You can go HERE to see it in action.

Merry Christmas!

wreath

Merry Christmas everyone.

How’s your Christmas going?

I spent my Christmas eve eating a Wendy’s Chicken sandwich and some chinese food. I visited some friends and exchanged Christmas cards. I dropped by a relative’s house and met cousins I haven’t seen in over a decade, and also met some cousins I never knew I had. And this morning Rosco gave me a Christmas present by taking a nice fresh dump in the living room. >< “Rosco, bad dog!”

Enjoy the rest of 2006.

Happy Holidays,

From your friendly neighborhood blogger

Home, Sweet Home

For those who tried to access my blog the past few hours may have experienced some errors. It was because I have relocated my site. It was previously hosted at Tinball Networks, a hosting company my friend owns. Now it is currently hosted on a personal webserver in my living room.

So now I have complete control over my webserver, and I can pretty much do what ever I want. The only drawbacks are that I’m currently limited in upload speed by my ISP and limited concurrent site connections due to using an non-enterprise webserver, hopefully that will change soon.

So in the mean time as I set everthing up please report any funky errors or issues on the site. Thanks.

“It’s the most wonderful time…”

This week was quite exciting. I got to go to the Panic! concert on Tuesday, and last night I attended the Strikeforce MMA event. Both were awesome events.

Christmas is getting close and many of my friends aren’t even done with their shopping. Luckily for me, I don’t do Christmas. Just not the shopping part. But the part were you hangout with family and eat lots of food, I do that. Sometimes.

Hope everyone has a safe year’s end and Merry Christmas, and for those anal-political correctness dick-holes, Happy Holidays.

My Titan Quest Prize

It came in yesterday. A signed copy of Titan Quest by the developers.

For those who has been wanting to read the prize-winning essay, here it is.

The Secret Life of a Conqueror
by Huy Nguyen

In the Tomb of Ramses, I slowly walk down the dark lit corridor. The heavy Thorny Maul glowing in the palm of my hand. A loud moan can be heard beyond the darkness. “Holy crap”, I thought to myself. Suddenly, a hoard of walking corpses swarms me. I swing my mighty-maul valiantly sending each of them into oblivion with each blow. With my Conqueror strength I bash the undead with my shield. Their remains explode into the air raining down bits and pieces of bite-size flesh. I turn around only to find a school of ethereal spirits bent on revenge for their comrades. I curse my enemies, “Bring it on you vile demons!” And before I can release my wrath and fury I feel a hand on my shoulder slowly shaking me.

“Huy, wake up.” A familiar voice said. I open my eyes and I am in a conference room with several co-workers sitting beside me. “What happen?” I asked. “Nothing, really. The meeting ended.” One of my co-workers responded. The four-hour lecture-meeting ended before I knew what happen.

Thanks to Titan Quest for providing me unproductive day-dreaming activities to make the most uneventful workday fly by.

As my co-worker and I walk back to our cubicle he turned around with raised eye-brows and asked, “Vile demons?”

Happy Thanksgiving!

Have a happy Thanksgiving everyone. Enjoy the wonderful meals and don’t eat too much. Save the left-overs for me. 🙂

Guitar time part 10

I finally got my camera back 😀

It’s been over two months since I did an acoustic guitar video. I got a ton of emails from people requesting certain songs and tabs for the videos I’ve done. I’ve gotten praises and constructive criticisms from them. Thanks! It can be quite motivating and at the same time nerve racking as I don’t want to accidentally bastardize any of those songs.

The song we got here is my acoustic cover of Fall Out Boy’s ‘Sugar We’re Going Down’

[File has been corrupted]

Sorry, I’ll have to redo the video another time.

Titan Quest Essay Contest

tqwinner

Titan Quest is an RPG for the PC. It came out this summer and, I’ve been playing it ever since. This hack n’ slash game is very similar to the Diablo series, but with much better graphics.

I submitted an essay for the contest, and I WON! Awesome! First place gets an autographed game of Titan Quest from the developers.

What are YOU doing?

I haven’t been posting anything interesting lately. Besides the Democrats taking over the Congress in last week’s election and Rummy resigning from the Secretary of Defense there wasn’t really much to talk about.

I wonder how many of you will spend your evening camping out in front of your local electronic store for a chance to buy the new PS3? Good luck for those who are camping out. Supplies are limited so even if you do wait all night you’re not guaranteed to get one.

I have a three-day weekend starting tomorrow and what makes this weekend so special is the UFC 65 event. George St. Pierre will be fighting Matt Hughes for the Welterweight Championship. I’m as anxious as a high school girl awaiting the results of her pregnancy test.

So who’s up for the new James Bond movie and a round of drinks tomorrow? (I was going to say something clever that included Martinis and the phrase ‘shaken, not stirred, but I’m too tired.)
