My Current Top 5 Favorite TV Shows

American Idol – This season was my first year watching this reality show. There was nothing else to watch, so I caught an episode somewhere at the beginning of the season. To my surprise the show is funny. Simon, one of the three judges, verbally humiliates practically all the contestants. His statements are opinionated which is what it’s suppose to be since he’s a judge, but many times they’re so true. If you haven’t watched the show yet, better wait till next season. Just watching Simon talk mad trash about all those people alone is worth it.

CSI – I’m a big detective show fan, and CSI has it all; drama, action, and great stories/episodes. What’s great about CSI is that you can just watch any episodes from any one season and it would be a good. But if you follow the entire series its even better has the future episodes tie into past ones. Each character on the show has a unique past which gives the show so much depth. The show is on its 6th or 7th season and it’s still one of the top shows out there.

House – I was never really into any of those doctor/hospital TV shows, but House is an exception. The show is about an egotistical arrogant doctor named Gregory House. He gets the weirdest patients with the weirdest diseases, sickness, and conditions and House has to figure out the cause and a remedy/cure for it. In the process he finds something shocking about the patient or their family and friends. What’s cool about the show is that House is crippled and needs a cane to walk, yet he rides a badass 2005 Honda 1000RR Repsol replica motorcycle.

South Park – Matt Stone and Trey Parker are geniuses. Everyone should know this show. Four fouled mouth kids who live in a town called South Park experiences outlandish and usually over exaggerated pop culture events. Everything you can think of has happened in South Park. The show is a breath of fresh air for those who are tired of the political correctness of our society.

Family Guy – Its humor is a bit esoteric at times, but if you have been following the show since it’s inception you know how good it is and where their jokes originate. Family Guy is the first show ever to be resurrected and uncancelled due to record sales of their DVDs. Similar to South Park, Family Guy delves into many of the political correctness of our society and does so in a comedic tongue-in-cheek fashion.

Slither

slither

It may not look like it from the movie cover but Slither can be considered a mild zombie movie. And YES, its another zombie movie. Written and Directed by James Gunn, who also wrote for 2004’s Dawn of the Dead, this movie takes place in a small town that unknowingly gets hit by a small meteorite that releases a worm like creature that takes over people’s bodies. A small group of townsfolk tries to fight back and destroy the spreading worm-invading epidemic. This movie is light-heartedly scary and the funny dialog from the characters keep tension of the movie toned down.

Inside Man

insideman

Bank heist movies tend to be the same. Inside Man plays more of a thriller/suspense rather than a mere action flick. Denzel Washington plays the lead negotiator who tries to convince the bank robbers to give up who is played by Clive Owen and a team of of unknown actors. The suspense of the movie is not only whether the heist can be pulled off but to know what Owen’s character’s motive in robbing the bank. Without revealing too much about the movie I feel that certain characters lacked in development. Overall, Inside Man is a great heist movie.

Rating: ★★★★★★★★☆☆

V for Vendetta

v

From the creators of The Matrix, the Wachowski brothers brings this screenplay to the big screen. This film-noir style movie takes place sometime in the near future where England is ruled by a religious-Hitler-like dictator. Life is controlled by the government through the media and their powerful political officials. V, a mysterious masked ‘freedom fighter’ or ‘terrorist’ depends on how you see it, wants to rid the government’s controlling grip on his people. V uses violence and plenty of explosions to battle the government and to convince his countrymen to join his side.

The story is beautifully written and the dialogue is superb. Hugo Weaving plays the eccentric and colorful V, who is hidden behind a musketeerian-like (this may not be a word) mask, and Natalie Portman is the unsuspecting girl who he captivates and is mutally captivated by her. The movie starts and finishes strong and will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy inside.

Guitar time part 2

I got another weekend off from work. And again I spent the majority of my day playing guitar. Here’s another excerpt video that I took. Note that this time I wore a hat, so people wouldn’t make fun of my hair.

Happy St. Patty’s Day

I celebrated my morning with a bowl of Lucky Charms. This is the only holiday that celebrates drunkeness and abundance of alcohol (I’m kidding). It’s just a good reason to go out and down some beer.

Guitar time

I haven’t posted in many days. I was busy with work and following the MMA scene. San Jose just had the first MMA sanction fight on Friday, which also set a record for the biggest MMA attendence in US history.

Enough of MMA. I finally got a weekend off to rest and have fun. So today I spent all morning and part of the afternoon playing with my guitar. I even got a camera and recorded myself to see how I look and sound when playing. Below is a clip. You may want to turn the volume down a bit as your ears may bleed. 😀

BJ Penn vs GSP review

For those of you who read my play by play or saw the fight it was very exciting and a very close match. I went to several MMA forums and noticed that many BJ Penn fans are are convinced that he did not lose or that the fight was a draw. To make sure I didn’t miss anything I went ahead and watched the fight several more times. And after rewatching the fight, it is more appearent that George St. Pierre won the fight and the decision should of been unanimous rather and than a split.

Many of the fans who say Penn won, argued that he did more damage. It was very obvious that GSP looked bloody whereas Penn was unscathed. When watching the fight again, Penn did all the damage in the first round, which basically consisted of that punch/poke to the right eye, and the grazing punch which caused GSP’s nose to bleed profusly. The combination of the swelling of the eye and the massive bleeding through the nose made it look worst than it actually was, in fact that was the only damaged that was caused by Penn, and it happen to be within the first two minutes of the fight.

For those who are able to rewatch the fight again, Penn became tired by the end of the first round. He was swinging for the cheap seats and each hook he threw, he threw with bad intentions, which is why he gassed so quickly. From his interview on Sherdog.com GSP said he regained his vision at the end of the first, which was when GSP begin to pick Penn with strong low kicks and stiff jabs to the face. It even continued into the second round where Penn was being more of a counter-puncher rather than being offensive.

GSP definately won rounds 2 and 3 and should of gotten the unanimous decision. For those who disagree watch the fight again. GSP will be the title holder by the end of the year when he defeats Matt Hughes in the rematch.
