What are YOU doing?

I haven’t been posting anything interesting lately. Besides the Democrats taking over the Congress in last week’s election and Rummy resigning from the Secretary of Defense there wasn’t really much to talk about.

I wonder how many of you will spend your evening camping out in front of your local electronic store for a chance to buy the new PS3? Good luck for those who are camping out. Supplies are limited so even if you do wait all night you’re not guaranteed to get one.

I have a three-day weekend starting tomorrow and what makes this weekend so special is the UFC 65 event. George St. Pierre will be fighting Matt Hughes for the Welterweight Championship. I’m as anxious as a high school girl awaiting the results of her pregnancy test.

So who’s up for the new James Bond movie and a round of drinks tomorrow? (I was going to say something clever that included Martinis and the phrase ‘shaken, not stirred, but I’m too tired.)

Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning

texaschainsawbeginning

Prequels are quite popular, but the downside is that you already know the outcome and the plot tends to be unoriginal. In this prequel you see how Leatherface came to be and how he got his favorite toy, the chainsaw. Similar to the first movie, a group of kids find themslves trying to escape the infamous Hewitt house

“The Beginning” brings nothing new to the table but more gore and more killing.

Saw III

saw3

This third installment of the gruesome horror movie makes it out right before Halloween. Tobin Bell reprises his role as Jigsaw killer. This time Jigsaw is in his death bed, but is still running his death games along with Amanda, one of his victims he has taken under his wing.

Saw III continues on it’s premise in pitting victims to perform deadly tasks to stay alive. This third installment carries a better plot and the gore is knocked up a notch. The scenes of the mutilating victims will make even a masochist squirm in their seat.

I rate this movie:

Rating: ★★★★★★★½☆☆

Hilarious!!!

A friend of mine sent me this picture. I thought it was hilarious. I can’t confirm if this is a real image, but it looks pretty real to me.

The Departed

thedeparted

The Departed carries a stellar cast including Martin Sheen, Alec Baldwin, and Mark Wahlberg. The Departed is a remake of a Chinese movie named, Internal Affair. But this version has a Scorsese touch, a dialog driven-type of movie.

Billy Costigan, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, is a undercover cop that infiltrates into Frank Costello’s (Nicholson) mob. On the opposite side of the law, Collin Sullivan , played by Matt Damon, is one of Costello’s men who became a State Cop to keep tabs on law enforement activities who are out to catch Costello.

Bloodshed ensues as they try to find the identity of the mole. The drama is tense and the body count rises as they desperately try to find more clues of the other’s identity.

I rate this movie:

Rating: ★★★★★★★★★☆

Pride FC: The Real Deal

priderealdeal

For the first time ever, Pride FC will be holding its event on U.S. soil.

Mark Coleman will be fighting against Fedor Emelianenko, Pride’s Heavyweight Champion. And Coleman’s team mate, Kevin Randleman, will be fighting Maurico Rua, Pride’s 2005 Middleweight GP Champion.

This will be an awesome event… Event starts in 5 minutes. Gotta go!

Zombies on a Plane???

planedead

For those who don’t already know, I’m a huge fan of the Zombie genre movies. Plane Dead looks to take some cues from Snakes on a Plane. The plot depicts an airplane carrying a deadly virus that turns it’s passengers into flesh eating undead monsters, and the those who aren’t affected must fight to survive.

This is frggin’ awesome. It should be out next year.

The Loma Prieta Quake Anniversary

It’s been 17 years since the quake hit the Bay Area. I remember that day quite fondly…

:::cue flashback sequence:::

I was sitting at the kitchen table doing my homework (when I said doing homework I mean reading my Highlight magazine). Then, suddenly the table began to shake. The potted plants that hung from the ceiling swayed back and forth. The pyramid stack of dishes in the sink crumbled apart. My dad and my brothers, who were watching television in the living room, darted out to the front door onto the lawn. I sat there in my chair in awe. My dad was outside signaling with his arms like a wildman for me to get outside. I jumped from my chair and ran to the front door.

Once outside, it took a few seconds for my eyes to adjust to the brightness. I could hear the car alarms going off on the streets. My neighbors were out in their yards as well. I remember my neighbor asking us the funniest question, “Hey, did you guys feel that?!”

“No shit Sherlock. Everyone with a pulse felt it!” That’s probably what I would of said if he asked me that now.

:::cue reverse flashback sequence:::

I was about 7 years old when it happen, and it was just a cool experience. To others, it was a frightening. Fortunately, the Bay Area hasn’t experience a large quake since. :::knock on wood:::

UFC 64 Main Event Review

Sherk was the heavy favorite and even though Sherk won the unanimous decision you have to give Florian a lot of credit. Florian took a beating but kept coming at Sherk. Even up until the last two minutes of round 5 there was still a glimpse of hope that Florian could possible pull out a suprising submission. In the end, Sherk definitely deserved the title for all he has been though. And Florian, even with this loss, proves that he is one of the top 155 pounders in UFC.

I was expecting a stand-up war between Franklin and Silva, but the fight ended so abruptly, and decisively, that feel I really bad for Franklin. It seem to be all down hill once Silva had Franklin in his Thai-clinch. The knees to the body and the nose-crushing blow was devastating. For the first time in UFC, Franklin looked unmotivated and out classed, in terms of striking ability. Congrats to Silva. It was his second UFC fight and he won the title. Not many can have that sort of claim.

My biggest question is what’s next for Franklin? And also will there be an immediate rubber match? Silva is definitely here to stay. Who will UFC feed him? Swick? Matt Hughes (that’s if he wants to move up)? From Silva’s performance tonight it looks like he will be holding onto the title for quite a while.

Who’s ready?

ufc64

Two titles are on the line; the middle weight championship and the light weight championship.

My quick predictions:

Franklin v.s. Silva
Franklin by stoppage of the 3rd or 4th round.

Sherk v.s. Florian
Sherk by stoppage of the 1st round.
