V for Vendetta

v

From the creators of The Matrix, the Wachowski brothers brings this screenplay to the big screen. This film-noir style movie takes place sometime in the near future where England is ruled by a religious-Hitler-like dictator. Life is controlled by the government through the media and their powerful political officials. V, a mysterious masked ‘freedom fighter’ or ‘terrorist’ depends on how you see it, wants to rid the government’s controlling grip on his people. V uses violence and plenty of explosions to battle the government and to convince his countrymen to join his side.

The story is beautifully written and the dialogue is superb. Hugo Weaving plays the eccentric and colorful V, who is hidden behind a musketeerian-like (this may not be a word) mask, and Natalie Portman is the unsuspecting girl who he captivates and is mutally captivated by her. The movie starts and finishes strong and will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy inside.

Guitar time part 2

I got another weekend off from work. And again I spent the majority of my day playing guitar. Here’s another excerpt video that I took. Note that this time I wore a hat, so people wouldn’t make fun of my hair.

Happy St. Patty’s Day

I celebrated my morning with a bowl of Lucky Charms. This is the only holiday that celebrates drunkeness and abundance of alcohol (I’m kidding). It’s just a good reason to go out and down some beer.

Guitar time

I haven’t posted in many days. I was busy with work and following the MMA scene. San Jose just had the first MMA sanction fight on Friday, which also set a record for the biggest MMA attendence in US history.

Enough of MMA. I finally got a weekend off to rest and have fun. So today I spent all morning and part of the afternoon playing with my guitar. I even got a camera and recorded myself to see how I look and sound when playing. Below is a clip. You may want to turn the volume down a bit as your ears may bleed. 😀

BJ Penn vs GSP review

For those of you who read my play by play or saw the fight it was very exciting and a very close match. I went to several MMA forums and noticed that many BJ Penn fans are are convinced that he did not lose or that the fight was a draw. To make sure I didn’t miss anything I went ahead and watched the fight several more times. And after rewatching the fight, it is more appearent that George St. Pierre won the fight and the decision should of been unanimous rather and than a split.

Many of the fans who say Penn won, argued that he did more damage. It was very obvious that GSP looked bloody whereas Penn was unscathed. When watching the fight again, Penn did all the damage in the first round, which basically consisted of that punch/poke to the right eye, and the grazing punch which caused GSP’s nose to bleed profusly. The combination of the swelling of the eye and the massive bleeding through the nose made it look worst than it actually was, in fact that was the only damaged that was caused by Penn, and it happen to be within the first two minutes of the fight.

For those who are able to rewatch the fight again, Penn became tired by the end of the first round. He was swinging for the cheap seats and each hook he threw, he threw with bad intentions, which is why he gassed so quickly. From his interview on Sherdog.com GSP said he regained his vision at the end of the first, which was when GSP begin to pick Penn with strong low kicks and stiff jabs to the face. It even continued into the second round where Penn was being more of a counter-puncher rather than being offensive.

GSP definately won rounds 2 and 3 and should of gotten the unanimous decision. For those who disagree watch the fight again. GSP will be the title holder by the end of the year when he defeats Matt Hughes in the rematch.

UFC 58: Play by Play

Stay tuned, I’ll be posting the play by play for the UFC 58 event in the comments section of this entry. The event will be starting at 7pm PST.

Fight of the Year: BJ Penn vs. George St. Pierre

bjpenn gsp

This Saturday, March 4th, BJ Penn and George St. Pierre will face off in the Octagon at UFC: 58. These two are the top fighters in the 170 lbs division and considered by many fans to be ranked (relatively) 1 and 2 in the world in that division.

BJ Penn is considered by many to be the pound for pound best fighter in the world. He has career victories over many great fighters including the the most dominant fighter in UFC history, Matt Hughes (which at this time has the UFC Welter Weight Title). Penn last fought in the UFC back in January of 2004 winning the title from Hughes. Wanting to compete against better and bigger fighters Penn left UFC to fight overseas, which incidently strips his UFC title. Outside of UFC, Penn fought in the 185 lbs and 205 weight division and have done stellar garnering him that pound for pound status by the fans (NOTE: Penn started his career fighting in the lightweight division at 155 lbs). Zuffa (The company that owns and runs UFC) has now re-signed Penn back into the UFC, and he is looking to get his title back from Hughes once again, but a road block lies ahead and that road block is named George St. Pierre.

George St. Pierre (GSP) is the up and coming fighter. He’s the future breed of MMA fighters. Not only did he beat three top ranked fighters, but he made them look bad, in fact, demolishing them as if they had no reason being in MMA. Similar to Penn, GSP has also fought Matt Hughes. GSP was beating Matt throughout the fight, but ends up getting caught with a submission in literally the last second of the first round leaving it the only loss on his almost perfect record. Since that loss, GSP has been on the warpath to get that title shot again. And BJ Penn is the only person standing in his way.

This has “Fight of the Year” written all over it. Why is that? I’ll tell you why. Both Penn and GSP have excellent striking and jiu jitsu skills. Penn is slick and can submit GSP if he makes a slight mistake, whereas GSP is tremendously quick and strong and can put Penn on his back where he can utilize those Canadian elbows. People say there’s a slight edge for Penn to win due to his more extensive experience, but it’s so razor thin that it comes down to who makes the first mistake.

What’s my pick? I’m going for the Canadian. Again, GSP is on the warpath, and Penn has never fought anyone who is as explosive as George St. Pierre.

Date Movie

datemovie

There are countless parody movies released in the past few years and you can count on Date Movie to be no different. The over-the-top humor and parody scene from other popular movies tends to be too corny to be funny at times. The story and plot are horrible. The only thing that kept me watching is when Sophie Monk is on screen. You’ll know what I mean if you ever watch the movie. If you’re looking for a quick laugh in a movie, you can go ahead and avoid this one.
