Quarter of a Century Mark

I turned 25 yesterday. Thanks to every who came out and had dinner with me. Even you bastards that tricked me and got me a shot of Bacardi 151. 😀

I don’t have any big plans this year, but my UFC trip made up for it. Maybe I’ll do something big next year.

In Vegas baby!

Posting via my blackberry, wish me luck at the tables. Updates on UFC weigh-ins coming soon.

UFC 67, Here I Come

I’m leaving for Las Vegas for the UFC 67 event on Thursday evening. It’s going to be great. It’s my first UFC event. I’m going to be attending the event with my brother so this Vegas trip won’t be a solo one.

I’ve been busy the past week with work and weekend-errands. I haven’t seen a movie in over a month. Luckily, January is a slow movie month. But there are a couple of movies I need to catch before they stop showing at the theaters. My days off from work are booked until March, so any new plans will have to be planned in March. I was also planning to migrate this website over to a more secure and efficient server-based operating system, that will have to wait too.

According to my logs, this site have doubled in traffic and webpage impressions all due to my videos posted on YouTube. I also got a ton of emails from people who liked them and from some who thought it sucked.

For those who haven’t noticed I added a Friends List to my site. It’s similar to a friends list in MySpace or Friendster. I thought it would be fun to have one because I don’t have an account. So if you like to be added or removed from the list shoot me a message.

The Misfortunes of an MMA trend

For the past couple of years the sport of MMA has grown leaps and bounds breaking into the semi-main stream of our social culture. As the sport continues to grow styles of fighting evolve and MMA becomes more respected, but there is a trend that is holding the fighters, more or less the sport, back. The fan-conscious fighters have been quite prevalent. These fighters main goal is to get acceptance from MMA fans or to build a fan base by trying to over-zealously push fights to make them exciting. They set themselves up to lose each fight as they try to fight outside their skill set and strategy.

New TV

samsungtv

I bought a new LCD TV a few days ago. I finally replaced my old aging Sony 27″ Wega which still works like a charm and picture quality is just as good as any present generation television set, non-Full HD of course.

After spending two months searching and comparing specs I decided to picked up the Samsung LN-S2651D. Upon setting up the television and plugging my media center to it, I noticed the quality of the picture was horrible. Worse than my old Sony set. I couldn’t figure out the cause of the poor quality. My new TV wouldn’t go any higher than a resolution 800×600, and I know my new TV supports up to 1366×768. I spent two days installing several different drivers for my video card and looking up several community forums for some sort of answer. It seems the posters in the forums have a writing skill level of a fifth grader. I got a headache trying to make sense of what they were writing about.

In the end, I just figured this whole setup just ain’t going to work with an s-video connection. So I headed to my local computer store and picked up a DVI to HDMI cable and hooked it up. Lone and behold my new TV was able to hit its max resolution (actually 1280×720). The picture is awesome. It even looks better than my Dell 2407 24″ desktop monitor. The DVI-HDMI connection makes a huge difference. So anyone setting up a media center on their widescreen HD television I recommend you use a DVI or an HDMI connection. Composite and s-video won’t cut it. Component connection may yeild slightly better results, but definitely try to stick to DVI/HDMI.

“Da Bears! And the Colts too!”

bears vs colts

The Bears and Colts fans must be having a ball. They’re in the Superbowl! For Colts and Pats fans who saw the game last night must have been sweating bullets as the Colts came from an 18 point deficit to win the game in the last few minutes.

Down with the sickness

Been quite miserable the past week. I caught something and have been sick since, and it doesn’t help coming into the office and work all day.

But as I lay in my bed with my stuffy nose, coughing, and sore throat I was thinking… thinking about getting a new motorcycle. I’m currently eyeing some V-twins. I’ll be heading to Vegas in a few weeks and hopefully I get lucky, as in lucky at the tables, it should make my motorcycle-buying decision much easier. 😀

Inventor of instant noodles dies

If it wasn’t for this man, millions of poor college students would have died of hunger.

His most famous product, Cup Noodle, was released in 1971.

Its taste and ease of preparation – adding hot water to dried noodles in a waterproof polystyrene container – have made it popular around the world.

My Mini Arcade

Remember the days when you went to your local liquor store and dropped a quarter to play your favorite arcade game? Well, I remember. I dropped a whole lot of quarters. In fact, the liquor store made more money off that arcade machine than selling alcohol.

Over the holiday break I bought a mini-arcade cabinet on craigslist. It came complete with a joystick and buttons setup and monitor. The cab was built by hand by the guy who sold it. He is quite the carpenter as the cab is solid and can be easily be mistaken for a commerical-built arcade. As for the wiring… lets say he won’t be an electrical engineer anytime soon.

The system is equiped with a 10 inch CRT rackmount monitor, Competition Happ joystick (The ones they use in Street Fighter II arcades), and a Street Fighter six-button layout with three additional buttons for other purposes.

Since purchasing the cab I had replace the rear fan, some internal wiring, and the rediculous out-dated computer that came with the cab.

Update: I also posted a video review version. You can go HERE to see it in action.
